AMRITSAR: Days after flights to Europe resumed with clouds of volcanic ash clearing, Air-India is struggling to clear the passenger backlog on its Amritsar London-Toronto route.
As per airline sources, there is still a backlog of 200 passengers with the flight operating from Rajasansi International Airport grounded for five days.
The rush of passengers on the route has forced the airlines to consider flying an addition al flight on Monday. Air-India station manager Ram Gopal said, “We are trying our best. We hope to operate an additional flight on Monday to send waiting passengers though we are yet to finalize the timing of the additional carrier.”
The scheduled flight AI 187 on Saturday flew about five hours late and left behind 60 passengers who had reported at the airport, as the flight was full.
“Today (on Saturday), we put 343 passengers on the flight. We hope the additional flight will solve the problem,” said another airline official.
