AMRITSAR: The seven-year-old boy who had reached Pakistan on Monday after boarding the Samjhauta Express by mistake was handed over to the Indian authorities on Tuesday.
Rajat, who had reached the Attari railway station in a local train, was in tattered clothes when he boarded the Samjhauta Express stationed there. He did not have any travel documents. Surprisingly, the immigration, customs and railway authorities failed to notice the boy.
After holding talks with BSF officials, the Pakistan authorities handed over the boy to them in the evening.
“Rajat, who hails from Shahjahanpur, was a beggar who had come to the Attari station in a local train. We will hand him over to the police,” said BSF DIG Mohammad Aquil.
Though Rajat is lucky to be back in India within 24 hours, the incident has put a question mark on the functioning of the authorities at the Attari station.
Notably, a boy from Pakistan who had boarded the Samjhauta Express had recently landed in India without any documents. This was also found to be a case of inadvertent crossing.
