AMRITSAR: The Tarn Taran police, who five days ago booked a school principal on the charge of raping a teacher, have now discovered that the two had married in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Following the registration of the case, Sri Guru Angad Dev Study Circle School principal Kulwinder Singh approached the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, which in a hearing on Friday established the two were legally married.
The commission asked the Tarn Taran DSP to give the couple police protection.
The woman – allegedly under pressure from her family – had lodged a complaint at Gobindwal police station, accusing Kulwinder Singh of abducting her in November 2009 and raping her repeatedly till February-end, after which she “was set free”.
Kulwinder’s father Tehal Singh (owner of the school), sister and a woman school-teacher were accused of helping him in the abduction.
DSP Manjeet lnder Singh Bal said it had now come to light that after the two belonging to different castes – married in court, the girl’s family tracked her down and got her back to Tarn Taran, where they made her file the complaint. “Medical examination of the girl revealed she was 12 weeks pregnant.”
