AMRITSAR: An anxious class XII student who ran away with his answer sheet on Friday for fear he wouldn’t perform well has been booked for breach of trust and theft on a complaint by the school authorities.
19-year-old Gurdev Singh jumped out of the window of his examination hall at the senior secondary school at Bahru village while writing his English board exam.
The school authorities tried to chase Gurdev, but could not nab him. They then approached Amritsar police. “We have arrested Gurdev, 19, and the paper has been seized from him,” said Sub-Inspector Vishwa Mitter. He said Gurdev was not a confident student and lagged in studies. “He ran away in a fit of nerves for fear of failing the exam and its con sequence,” added the SI.
DEO Secondary Manjeet Kaur Sidhu said that a school is answerable to the board if an answer sheet goes missing. “The school took this step to send out a strong message,” he added.
Another such incident where a student ran away with his answer sheet was reported in Chheharta. The name of the student was not immediately known.
