AMRITSAR: Two women, in their mid-twenties, who were found lying unconscious in a hotel near the Golden Temple on Thursday have reportedly died.
The deceased have been identified as Rajvinder Kaur, a resident of Vallah, and Harvinder Kaur, a resident of Jandiala.
The B Division Police said the women had checked in at the hotel on Wednesday night. “They were found lying unconscious after their room was forcibly opened on Thursday morning,” officials said.
The victims, who are suspected to have consumed some poisonous substance, were rushed to a private hospital, where Rajvinder died on Thursday while Harvinder breathed her last on Friday.
According to reports, the two had been friends since child hood. “They had graduated from a reputed girls’ college in Amritsar. After graduation, Rajvinder went to Italy in April 2009 to stay with her sister,” officials said. Harvinder, meanwhile, worked as a school teacher in a government school.
Rajvinder, who had recently come to India on February 5, was to return to Italy in a few days.
“The friends might have decided to meet and pay obeisance at the Golden Temple as both had recently got engaged.” officials said.
A post mortem has been conducted and a case under Section 174 of the CrPC registered. “No suicide note has been found. We will talk to their families for further information”, police added.
