BATHINDA: Bathinda central jail authorities have recovered poppy husk from two accused brought there, bringing the role of cops under a scanner.
On March 4, Raman Mandi police had arrested Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Karamjeet Singh from Barrewala village of Moga district with 8 kg poppy husk. The two were booked under NDPS Act.
As per rules, the accused were thoroughly frisked and a recovery memo – details of articles recovered from the accused was prepared for record at Raman Mandi police station, as per reports.
The judicial magistrate sent the two accused to jail. Jail authorities found 400 gram poppy husk from the sports shoes of the accused. Based on a complaint by the jail staff, Bathinda city police registered another case under NDPS Act at Civil Lines police station.
Meanwhile, senior police officials have marked a probe to SP (Headquarters), who has been asked to investigate the role of cops.
Sub-Inspector Mohinder Singh, who was in-charge of the police party, has denied that he connived with the accused. He said that the poppy husk was concealed in the shoes in such a manner that the police could not detect it.
SHO, Raman Mandl, Harbans Singh has confirmed that a case has been registered and departmental inquiry is underway.
