CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has no objection lf the 12-year-old Mohammad Ateek of Lahore, who arrived at Attari station in Amritsar by the Samjhauta Express without any travel document on February 21, is repatriated to Pakistan.
This was stated by DSP (GRP) Narinder Pal Singh in an affidavit filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, hearing a petition filed by the World Human Rights Council seeking directions for release of the boy.
In another affidavit, Punjab AIG (Counter-Intelligence) Braham Pal stated that a communication had already been sent to the secretary (foreigners), Union Ministry of Home Affairs, on March 4, stating that Punjab had no objection if Ateek was repatriated to his country, and the state government would send him back immediately on receipt of directions in this regard.
Ateek, a student of Class VII had left home after being scolded by his father for flying kites, and sat in the train at Lahore station.
During the arguments, World Human Rights Council chairman Ranjan Lakhanpal said:
“The mental state of Ateek’s parents can only be imagined and not told.”
