CHANDIGARH: The Punjab State Information Commission has imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on a tehsildar for her lack adaisical approach in providing information.
Information Commissioner P.P.S. Gill ordered then Patiala tehsildar Vinay Sharma, now posted at Amritsar, to deposit Rs 5,000 within a week.
“The failure in processing and serving the RTI request is unjustified and the attitude exhibited is unexpected of a public functionary. It appears she is not sensitized to citizens rights,” the order said.
Satwant Kaur of Patiala had moved the Commission after Sharma’s failure to provide information on the number of plots, of less than 1,000 square yards, for which sale deeds had been registered on charging of registration fee payable for agriculture land.
Then the Public Information Officer, Sharma was served a show-cause notice on December 14. But she failed to appear or submit any reply on the next hearing on January 8. The case was adjourned to January 22. Sharma again failed to appear.
The Commission also served a notice on present PIO, Patiala Tehsildar Subash Bhardwaj, for not providing information to Salwant Kaur.
