On February 21, the petition said, Mohd Ateek, a student of class VII, had an altercation with his parents and left home for watching a movie. After the movie, he spotted some men chasing him and entered a train at Lahore railway station. He fell asleep in it.
‘The train, Samjhauta Express, reached Attari, where he was arrested. Lakhanpal contended that Ateek was now in police custody or judicial lock-up.
His petition stated that earlier too young boys had crossed the border inadvertently and languished in jail for years together.
Stating that the mental state of Ateek’s parents could only be imagined and not felt, Lakhanpal sought directions for his early repatriation.
