CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has stated that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s reported orders to all deputy commissioners to keep Akali workers happy tantamount to unconstitutional working and subverting the principles of governance.
He said the deputy commissioners were handed over a list of 40 Akali workers, including elected representatives of each district, by Daljit Singh Cheema, Adviser to the Chief Minister, on Sukhbir’s instructions.
Khaira demanded immediate resignation of Sukhbir as Deputy CM for violating the oath taken by him under the Constitution to be custodian of the law and be fair in his working. The MLA said these “illegal and unconstitutional” orders confirmed the Congress allegations of political vendetta unleashed against its cadre by the Akalis during the past’ three years.
“These biased orders given by Sukhbir, also the Shiromani Akali Dal president, have vindicated charges of nepotism, favoritism and unfair working of the SAD-BJP government,” Khaira said, adding that the Election Commission and the Union government must take serious and immediate cognizance of the “complete breakdown” of constitutional machinery in the state.
The MLA said, “Keeping in view these unconstitutional and illegitimate orders, the Congress urges the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court to take suo motu notice of this gross and dangerous proposition of the Deputy CM.”
“The CM must intervene and instruct- all DCs not to carry out such illegal orders and a thorough probe must be conducted,” he added.
