CHANDIGARH: The Government of India has provided an additional sum of Rs 100 crore to Haryana under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP).
An official spokesman said the funds had been diverted by the Central government from other non-performing states. The amount would enable the state to take up new works. Thus far, the Public Health Department had plans to augment drinking water supply in 750 villages under the state plan and another 200 under the Central plan during the current financial year. Now, another 100 villages are expected to benefit from the additional funds.
During the current fiscal, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 72.44 crore under NRDWP and 17.94 crore under the Desert Development Programme. These allocations were considered inadequate.
