CHANDIGARH: In a relief to B.I.S. Chahal, then media adviser to former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the Supreme Court has stayed his one-week civil imprisonment.
It was awarded by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 20 in a contempt of court case for interfering with judicial proceedings.
Chahal was also slapped with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
Subsequently, Chahal had moved the SC where after hearing the arguments of his counsel on Monday, the Bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Bala krishnan admitted the appeal and stayed the orders passed by the High Court.
Chahal was convicted by a Full Bench of HC after being held guilty of preventing production of records of the sports department before the court on May 28, 2004.
