GURDASPUR: Local Party workers gave their vote of confidence to Capt Amarinder Singh, describing him as the only leader who can take on the SAD-BJP and lead the party to power in the next assembly poll, to visiting Punjab Affairs In-Charge Usha Thakkar.
An overwhelming majority of the workers backed Capt even as handfuls were of the view that local MP Partap Singh Bajwa be given the opportunity to lead the state unit.
Thakkar visited the Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, where she interacted with local workers about the ongoing membership drive for organizational elections likely to be wrapped up in July.
Workers Complained of inconsistencies in the drive, which Thakkar said would be taken care of during scrutiny.
Thakkar, who is a senior Congress leader from Gujarat, told workers that she would submit a report on her interaction with the district unit, along with her recommendations, to AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes.
Former MLAs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Ashok Sharma, Rumal Chand, Kishan Chand and Aruna Chaudhary, and former minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Raman Bhalla and Ashwani Sekhri, PPCC Secretary Raman Bahl spoke with Thakkar.
