GURDASPUR: The Punjab government will organize World Kabaddi League matches in February 2010, offering Rs 1-crore first prize and Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh for the second and third runners-up.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stated this while addressing a gathering after giving away prizes to the winners at the religious and cultural fair held in memory of Sant Baba Bhurewal at Jaura Chhatran village, 14 km from here, on Sunday.
Badal said top kabaddi teams from various countries had been invited to participate in the kabaddi league matches. He expressed the concern that the electronic media high lighted only cricket and tennis, and ignored traditional sports like kabaddi, wrestling, hockey and football.

On the occasion of the mela at Jaura Chhatran, Dr Raminder Singh, an NRI, donated Rs 1 lakh to the village mela committee.
Meanwhile, during the Sant Baba Bhurewal fair, five wrestling matches were held among wrestlers from India and Pakistan, all of which were won by Indian players.
