HOSHIARPUR: The court of chief judicial magistrate Gurmit Kaur on Wednesday issued summons to SAD secretary Daljit Singh Cheema, directing him to appear in the court on May 13, the next date of hearing of the case filed against the Shiromani Akali Dal by Socialist Janata Party national vice-president Balwant Singh Khera.
Cheema has been asked to bring all relevant record pertaining to his party’s recognition from the Election Commission of India and the gurdwara election commission.
Khera, in his petition, had alleged that the SAD had fraudulently obtained registration under the Representation of People’s Act, 1951, by stating secular credentials, whereas in the constitution filed with the gurdwara election commission, it had claimed itself to be religious party.
The ECI and gurdwara commission -representatives have already submitted their record but none from the SAD appeared on previous hearings.
