HOSHIARPUR: Giving out a strong message on the eve of Women’s Day, 158 girls from different backgrounds passed out with flying colours from the Punjab Security Training Institute, Jahan Khelan, to be inducted as private security guards.
They were the first to under go basic security training at the institute, set up last year to cater to the private security sector. As many as 394 male trainees also passed out.
“Parents who do not have a male child feel insecure, but I want to tell them that girls are as good as boys and they must be given a chance to stand on their own feet,” said Meena, who led the parade.
Chief Guest MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal was all praise for the girls and congratulated their parents for letting them chalk out a career for themselves. “You are path-breakers and I hope you’ll inspire many others to become self-dependent,” she said, exhorting them to join in the movement against social evils like female foeticide and drug addiction.
Before the march past, all the outgoing trainees took the solemn oath to dedicate themselves to their duties with commitment and honesty. They also displayed their skills acquired during the two-month training. Representatives of some security agencies were present on the occasion for placement of the fresh trainees.
Commandant Gurshran Singh claimed that all trainees were fully geared up for future assignments and equipped to measure up to their prospective professional challenges.
Punjab Police Security Corporation managing tor M.K. Tiwari :-mid a similar security training institute would come up at Budhlada at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
