The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) led the police team that arrested the SHO, Anoop Singh ‘Noopi’ of Pandori Nijjran village and Sukhwinder Singh ‘Sukha’ of Lalowal-Husseinpur village on Friday. Police have recovered Rs 53 lakh from them. Their aides Balbir Singh alias Monu and Angrej Singh of Lalowal Husseinpur village are on the run.
The arrested cop is known for his close ties with an Akali MLA from the district who, it is believed, helped him get prime postings many times, sources said.
They said that SHO Sukha Singh was earlier suspended after a group of drug peddlers were arrested from outside his official residence but the suspension was revoked after the MLA put in a word.
NRI Charanjit Singh had alleged in his complaint on March 4 that four masked men looted Rs 60 lakh from his residence at gunpoint. His house help Maya and her friend were at home at the time.
