JALANDHAR: The city police on Wednesday booked five persons, including a woman Congress leader, for the murder of an old-aged person in the cantonment area on Tuesday.
The accused include Congress leader Uma Vashisht, wife of PPCC secretary Varinder Sharma, Bhola Nath, Avinash, Ashwani Kumar and Vinod Kumar.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Rajpal Sandhu told HT that while they had arrested four of the accused, the Congress leader was absconding.
The case was registered on a complaint by Janak Dulari, wife of the deceased, Kamal Kishor. Janak Dulari alleged that Uma Vashisht, wife of her late brother-in law, came to their house late on Tuesday night and roughed them up over some property dispute.
All the five accused dragged Kamal Kishore outside the house and beat him up, the complainant alleged. Kamal Kishore was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
