LUDHIANA: Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has said Congress-Legislative Party (CLP) leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was best suited for the Rajya Sabha ticket.
“She is senior to me in politics and is best suited for politics in the Centre,” Capt said, reacting to Bhattal’s remarks suggesting his name for the Rajya Sabha ticket.
Speaking to mediapersons after hearing in the Ludhiana City Centre case, Capt said,
“Bhattal has remained the state’s Chief Minister, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and CLP leader. She has been in politics before me. So, this way she is senior to me and best suited for politics at the Centre,” Capt said.
On the issue of subsidies to states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana, Capt demanded the same from the Centre for Punjab. “Punjab fulfils all terms and conditions for getting subsidies,” he said. “The financial position of the state is in doldrums. If Punjab doesn’t get subsidies, it will be very difficult to bring economic stability,” he added.
Claiming that the law and order situation in the state was getting worse, Capt accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal of being busy in vendetta politics. “The industry is suffering due to failure of the state government in providing electricity to them. The revenue collections of the state have touched a new low and the government has no financial management policies,” he said.
