LUDHIANA: With the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections on the anvil, hectic parleys are on among panthic organization to form a united front to take the challenge of the Shiromani Akali Dal head on.
This time Sikh radicals living aboard are playing a pivotal role and have told all Panthic groups in Punjab to either form a united front against Badals or forget about any support.
They have already sent Rs5 lakh for the family of Drashan Singh Lohara, who died in police firing in Ludhiana on December 5 during the bid to oppose the function of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan. Now, Rs 1 lakh each has been given to the critically injured and Rs 50,000 each to the other injured.
Sources said the radicals have had talks to form a united front and SAD (Amritsar), Dal Khalsa and SAD (Presidium) have fallen in line.
Akhand Kirtani Jatha spokesman R.P. Singh said the first aim was to bring together all Panthic groups for the December 30 function at Fatehgarh Sahib.
“The Ludhiana incident has provided us an issue which can destabilize the Badals from SGPC.”
Dal Khalsa spokesman K.S.Bittu said, “We are keen to form a united front to fight SGPC elections under one umbrella to oust Badals.”
SAD (A) chief Simranjit Singh Mann said talks were on and “we wish all groups come together to save the Panth from the clutches of Badals.
