LUDHIANA: More than 400 residents of Dr Ambedkar Colony in Atam Nagar assembly constituency of Ludhiana failed to exercise their franchise as their names were missing from the voter list.
Voters who had ration cards as proof of identity claimed that officials on duty didn’t look into the matter.
Shankar Lal (50) and Meena (46) said they had voted in the past four elections, but were not able to do it this time.
Meanwhile, Bharat, Kanpuri Mohallil pradhan, was spotted carrying more than 70 voter slips, which he claimed were to be polled by residents of his colony in favor of SAD candidate Hira Singh Gabria.
In violation of the model code of conduct, Gabria’s supporters ferried migrants from Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Dhaka colony) in cars and SUVs to polling stations across Atam Nagar constituency. One of the cars in the fleet had Gabria’s posters/stickers on it.
Asked about the irregularities, Gabria said, “I have not asked anybody to ferry voters to booths. There canÂnot be any foul play in the distribution of voter slips.”
