PATIALA: Punjab Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah on Saturday said that the Central government has been working against the interest of farmers in the state by failing to announce adequate minimum support price for their produce.
Langah said if the Centre fails to announce MSP for wheat in keeping with the input cost, farmers would have to opt out of the wheat-paddy cycle and take up profitable options.
Interacting with media persons after inaugurating the fruits and vegetable exhibition at Baradari Garden, he said farm scientists have cleared the 201 paddy variety but the Union Health Ministry has raised objections. He hoped the matter would be sorted out soon.
He urged farmers to utilize subsidies being offered for growing vegetables, fruits and flowers. He said the agriculture Department would undertake a drive to grow flowers in all schools and cremation grounds of the state.
