PATIALA: The violent protests by Dera Sacha Sauda supporters on Saturday and Sunday have caused the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) an estimated loss of Rs 5.25 crore. The actual loss, sources say, could be higher.
Angry mobs had vandalized nine PRTC buses at various places, including an air-conditioned bus, causing a loss of Rs 1.25 crore to the transport corporation.
The PRTC suffered a loss of Rs 4 crore on account of suspension of bus services in most parts of Punjab in the after math of the violence.
The AC bus which was set ablaze in Bathinda on Saturday was among the six AC buses flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal at Patiala 10 days ago.
These buses cost the corporation Rs 30 lakh each.
“Only 30 per cent of the PRTC buses operated on these two days,” said PRTC general manager (operations) P.S.Hundal.
Hundal further said that the total distance covered by PRTC buses was around 90,000 km as against 4 lakh km on normal days.
