JALANDHAR: Indian forces will retaliate if cross border rocket fire is not firmly dealt with; the BSF has warned Pakistan Rangers.
BSF (Punjab Frontiers) IG Himmat Singh said they had conveyed their position to the Rangers during a sector commander level flag meeting at Wagah joint check post (JCP) on Monday.
Five rockets were fired from Pakistan on September 11, between 9.55 p.m. and 10.45 p.m., at Dhanoya Khurd, Rattan Kalan, Mode and Dalleke villages. Several houses and property suffered damage.
The IG said the Rangers led by Brigadier Kamran initially refused to accept the BSF version conveyed to them by DIG Mohammed Aquil and tried to counter the charge with claims of BSF fire at its Kare Singh Wala checkpost, which the force has denied.
“We told the Rangers to seek the assistance of other Pakistan agencies if need be, but that we will not tolerate damage to life and property of our citizens. ‘ The role of Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) in the rocket firing incidents cannot be ruled out,” he added.
Authorities are trying to verify the origin of the rockets, Singh informed.
“We lodged a protest with the Rangers after four rockets were fired from Pakistan soil into Indian Territory in general area of Attari JCP and Pulkanjari on July 4, to make an impact at a distance of approximately 3.5 km from the International Border. A repeat of the incident took place on September 11.
“Brig Kamran has assured that the incident would not be repeated and the matter would be investigated in detail. The meeting was held in a cordial manner,” the BSF IG added.
