RUPNAGAR: Sore over the alleged indifference of officials towards issues concerning Scheduled Castes, former Akali minister and member of the Punjab State Commission for SCs Dalip Singh Pandhi on Wednesday walked out of a meeting to review the progress of SC welfare schemes.
The meeting was presided over by chairman of Commission Niranjan Singh.
Pandhi expressed his annoyance with officials, including a DSP, over their alleged failure to take action on complaints of an SC woman of Chamkaur Sahib area and an SC sarpanch for removal of encroachments.
He walked out, questioning the logic behind such meetings when officials were indifferent towards problems and issues concerning weaker sections.
Niranjan Singh later asked district officials to implement welfare schemes pertaining to SCs in letter and spirit.
He said if funds for any ongoing scheme were not made available, the officials should inform the Commission.
