RUPNAGAR: Shiromani Akali Dal secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Friday said there was no move to elevate Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as Chief Minister as yet.
Dhindsa, who was here as chief guest in a prize distribution function at the annual sports meet of the local government college, said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was hale and hearty and his absence in some functions and Assembly session owing to minor ailments does not mean that he would give up the post to pave way for Sukhbir.
“The issue has not come up for discussion in the party so far. As such, there is no question of elevation of Sukhbir,” Dhindsa told mediapersons.
Responding to a query, Dhindsa, who is chairman of Village Committee of Commonwealth Games, expressed satisfaction over construction work.
Dhindsa, also president of Punjab Olympics Association, said the state government was bringing a sports policy soon.
It would be ensured the sports talent from Punjab does not go to organizations like Railways and remains in the state. For this, he said, players will be offered jobs. He announced that Rs 2 lakh would be arranged for the focal college.
